ERDEN ERUÇ'S GEAR LIST FOR PACIFIC CROSSING - 2007-08

ENERGY and RELATED SUPPLIES

  • Fixed rigid solar panels on rooftop
  • 2 roll out solar panels (2'x8') to boost the available surface on cloudy days
  • one roll out solar panel (18''x3') with integral cigarette lighter jack, in case of massive electrical failure on boat
  • one small foldable solar panel with various size jacks to plug directly into electronics, in case of massive electrical failure on boat.2 marine gel batteries
  • Spare lithium AA and AAA batteries
  • Rechargeable AA batteries and 12V charger
  • 12V/120V converter for battery chargers

SAFETY and RELATED SUPPLIES

  • Locator strobe light on boat
  • Navigation light
  • Anchor rode, U-links
  • Sea anchor, and its trip line
  • Bottom anchor, chain
  • Fenders for docking and for sea anchor
  • Headlamp using AA batteries, and a spare
  • Lifejacket (2), one in emergency grab bag, one more accessible

BOAT MAINTAINENCE and TOOLS

  • Oars (3 pairs)
  • Spare parts: oar locks, fuses, bulbs, foot straps, Teflon lubricant, screws, nuts, bolts, bearings
  • Sail stitching kit and thread
  • Two plastic funnels, one medium size, another smaller
  • Sliding seat
  • Short bits of 3/8" hose, longer stretch of smaller diameter clear hose
  • Toolkit with pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, metal saw, Allen keys and such
  • Soldering iron, soldering wire and compound
  • Steel wire
  • Duct tape
  • Electric tape
  • Epoxy, fiber
  • a dozen lighters, as moisture eventually renders these useless.
  • Teflon lubricant for oarlocks
  • Silicon spray to protect electrical surfaces against corrosion
  • marine electronics grease for electrical connectors
  • marine grade caulking in tubes
  • Fishing kit for large fish and for squid, spare fishing lines, hooks, crimper, crimping sleeves, lead weights
  • a small water bottle full of vodka to tame the larger catch of fish - put a capful on the gills of the catch when it is on deck to stop its thrashing
  • 6-foot collapsible spear, with its rubber at the handle, to fish
  • Equipment manuals
  • an etrier (step ladder made of webbing) tied to boat side, which I can pull out to aid my climb back on board

  • Onset Hobo Data Loggers (2) - captures temperature on daily increments; one is mounted underwater on rudder, one is on deck out of the direct sun

  • 3' stainless steel pipe to serve as support for the clamp, and four prepositioned pipe inserts to serve as the base for the pipe, positions offer different camera/camcorder angles/heights.

  • Handheld waterproof radio (vhf) and charger
  • Yellow Q-flag to request customs processing on arrival to a foreign port
  • Flags of Australia, USA and Turkey to display appropriately. State of Washington flag is on the stern where the boat is registered
