Marine Quest 1492 is an Upward Bound program designed to
encourage talented young people to pursue a college education in
the sciences. These young people, who are still in high school,
are spending part of their summer at the University of Akron to
take part in an international effort to understand the way whales
and other marine animals live. Their goal, specifically, is to find
a way to attatch a tracking device to whale blubber, a problem yet
to be adequately solved by marine biologists.
