Chronic obstructive pumonary disease (COPD) is an inflammatory disease characterized by progressive airflow limitation due to the inhalation of toxic particles and gases. Current diagnosis mechanisms are time consuming and costly, highlighting the need for accessible and rapid diagnosis, to treat COPD at its earliest of stages. I created a rapid, simple spartphone-based detection system for COPD, using an NFC tag (otherwise used to make transactions with Apple Pay) that transmits information to a smartphone. In use, the consumer breathes on this tag, stimulating an electrical change. This change is read by a smartphone app, providign a COPD diagnosis in seconds.
