Marine Quest 1492

History

Marine Quest 1492 was an Upward Bound program designed to encourage talented young people to pursue a college education in the sciences. These young people, who were still in high school, spent part of their summer at the University of Akron to take part in an international effort to understand the way whales and other marine animals live. Their goal, specifically, was to find a way to attatch a tracking device to whale blubber, a problem yet to be adequately solved by marine biologists.
